Disclaimer : This is one person's point of view and there is nothing wrong with that . Read it with your discretion .
It's New Bridge Centre , but most people easily forgotten that it is a office building with shopping areas below.
Most people remember it as the spot where CK departmental store is in Chinatown .
There is also a Dayou Department store at level 2 , which is a daily goods departmental store at affordable prices .
It is one of the affordable daily goods department stores in the area (Dayou don't sell vegetables or meat in the store ) .
Another affordable daily goods place is Sheng Siong Supermarket at Havelock Road nearby ~ 15 to 20 minutes walking distance from Dayou. (Leisurely walking speed ) . It is a full-fledged supermarket.
And of course you now have the Scarlet Supermarket flagship store ( 恩家客) in People's Park Complex which sells mostly daily groceries and produce from the People's Republic of China. ( Just opposite of New Bridge Centre -5 to 10 minutes walking distance , if you are taking the overhead bridge at nearby Lucky Chinatown ).
And not forgetting the NTUC fairprice supermarket at the basement of Chinatown point. It is also another full-fledged supermarket ( also about 5 to 10 minutes walking - depending on whether the walkway towards there is crowded or not ) .
The above are the bigger sized stores .
Of course there are smaller shops and stores in the area , in the nearby cluster of HDB flats, at Hong Lim Complex and at Chinatown complex . But these stores and shops , if you noticed, are other types of shops , like TCM medicinal stores , hair salons , barber shop ,tea cutlery , fruit stores etc You hardly see daily goods stores in the clusters of HDB flats. Maybe it's not profitable to compete with nearby supermarket chain stores
The area is quite well served by supermarkets and daily goods stores .( Affordable prices ones . Of course , under today's inflation , the prices can't be compared with prices 1 year ago .Still, they are relatively affordable )
I hoped this is useful. : )
Alot of good classic food here
If you are lucky, u can pick up a couple of pretty blouses at $10, $20 when they r on sale.
This is the department store to go to for reasonably-priced merchandise. Love the 3-ply Darling pocket tissues at $3 for 3 packs of 10s. Good quality 1000ml hand/body wash. About $4.
Not for snobs but for smart fashionistas who know how to dollar stretch AND still look good. Chic on the cheap.
For a local people or senior citizen and overseas tourists, if you want to eat very full and good food, try this store at Chinatown Complex hawker centre, it tasty and very cheap and the meat like BBQ pork, chicken and duck he will sell all finish that is why all the meat it very fresh. if I not mistaken in Singapore you still cannot find $2:00 chicken rice. The store number is 02-181, Uncle and Auntie they are both Singaporean they work for young until this old age.
Got 1 new shop selling China food, don't like it because all soup base is mala hot pot (chillie), very unhealthy food. But got several varieties of noodles (handmade). Didn't buy anything because too long Q during evening peak hours.
So full of all those cliches souvenir stores that sell cheap throwaway quality products, and eateries that are catered for mainland Chinese taste (distinctly different to local Chinese). At least it's neat, but seriously, you can do a lot better than spending time and money here.
Ok
A must visit place for me before CNY . Because of covid situation in Singapore, I will go for online shopping instead.. health matters the most.. wishes all a bless and fruitful lunar new year and stay safe and stay healthy.... hugs to all.
